What to Know
The South Carolina Gamecocks have been on the wrong side of a one-way rivalry with the LSU Tigers and are hoping to record their first win since Feb. 28 of 2018. The Gamecocks and LSU will face off in an SEC battle at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday at Colonial Life Arena. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous games.
USC skirted by the Ole Miss Rebels 77-74 on Tuesday thanks to a clutch half-court bomb from guard James Reese V with 0:01 remaining. Guard Devin Carter was the offensive standout of the contest for USC, posting a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, LSU didn’t have too much trouble with the Georgia Bulldogs at home on Wednesday as they won 84-65. LSU’s success was spearheaded by the efforts of forward Tari Eason, who had 21 points along with nine boards, and forward Darius Days, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. Days’ performance made up for a slower matchup against the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Saturday.
The wins brought the Gamecocks up to 14-10 and the Tigers to 19-7. A couple stats to keep an eye on: USC has allowed their opponents an average of 8.1 steals per game, the fourth most in college basketball. To make matters even worse for USC, LSU enters the matchup with 11.3 steals per game on average, which is the best in college basketball. In other words, USC will need to work extra hard to take care of the ball.
