What to Know
The Cleveland Cavaliers haven’t won a matchup against the Orlando Magic since March 3 of 2019, but they’ll be looking to end the drought Saturday. Cleveland will take on Orlando at 8 p.m. ET at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse after having had a few days off. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
It looks like the Cavaliers got the smaller half of the wishbone at Thanksgiving dinner. They were within striking distance but couldn’t close the gap on Wednesday as they fell 120-115 to the Phoenix Suns. One thing holding Cleveland back was the mediocre play of point guard Ricky Rubio, who did not have his best game: he finished with 15 points on 5-for-20 shooting in his 29 minutes on the court.
Meanwhile, Orlando took a serious blow against the Chicago Bulls on Friday, falling 123-88. Orlando was down 90-69 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from. A silver lining for them was the play of power forward Wendell Carter Jr., who posted a double-double on 26 points and ten rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Carter Jr. has had at least ten rebounds. Carter Jr.’s points were the most he has had all season.
The Cavaliers are the favorite in this one, with an expected 7.5-point margin of victory. They are currently two-for-two against the spread in their most recent games, a trend bettors might want to take into account.
Cleveland is now 9-10 while the Magic sit at 4-16. Two numbers to keep in mind before tip-off: Cleveland ranks first in the league when it comes to fouls per game, with only 16.1 on average. On the other end of the spectrum, Orlando is stumbling into the game with the fifth most fouls per game in the league, having accrued 20.3 on average. Keep an eye on whether or not foul trouble puts Orlando in a difficult position.
