Rankings Show: How high can we defensibly rank Khamzat Chimaev — and are Bellator’s best better than Glover Teixeira?

Written by on November 3, 2021

The Khamzat Chimaev hype train is back and blazing down the tracks after UFC 267’s unreal rout of Li Jiangliang. With a 4-0 octagon record and striking stats that are close to nonsensical, Chimaev is already flirting with one of the greatest starts to a UFC career we’ve ever seen. But what does that mean in terms of the rankings? How high is too high when it comes to Chimaev’s current place within the welterweight ladder?

Co-hosts Shaun Al-Shatti and Alexander K. Lee dive deep into MMA Fighting’s Global Rankings on the latest episode of the MMA Fighting Rankings Show to debate Chimaev’s torrid rise, discuss the biggest risers and fallers of October, plus the latest shake-ups in the women’s pound-for-pound race as Kayla Harrison’s PFL free agency looms.

Then, the two are joined by fellow rankings panelists Damon Martin and Jed Meshew for a heated debate over the light heavyweight pecking order. In the aftermath of UFC 267, should Glover Teixeira be the undisputed No. 1? Or do a few of the 42-year-old’s contemporaries — whether it’s the UFC’s next contender Jiri Prochazka or the Bellator twosome of Corey Anderson and Vadim Nemkov — have a case of their own for that top spot?
