Wrapping up the third week of the Premier League season, nothing can be called a must-win match but this is one that feels like it. Both Tottenham and Newcastle United are undefeated so far and will likely only be separated by a few points in the race for Champions League soccer. Head-to-head matches between the top teams in the league will make the difference and for Tottenham, getting points off of teams like Newcastle who aren’t playing European soccer is even more important. Tottenham will need to rotate when the Europa League kicks off which could lead to dropped points so staying perfect in league play for as long as possible is critical.

Storylines
Newcastle United: Still without Fabian Schar due to suspension, the Magpies will have to go with a makeshift defense. It’s one that won’t include Marc Guehi with the center back staying at Crystal Palace. Keiran Trippier is also still at Newcastle with the transfer window shut so it will be interesting to see if he makes his way back into the starting XI.
Team: Spurs will still be without Dominic Solanke who has an ankle injury but with Son Heung-Min scoring a brace against Everton, there is flexibility in the attack. Defensively Spurs will be tested by Alexander Isak but under Ange Postecoglou, this is an attack that can keep up with some of the best teams in the league. Looking to enter the international break on a high note before the North London derby against Arsenal, Spurs will want a victory here.
Prediction
With a late goal from Brennan Johnson, Spurs will get the job done securing a critical victory away from home. Pick: Newcastle United 2, Tottenham 1
