Despite his absence, Cole still leads the American League in strikeouts and is in the running to win his first Cy Young award after finishing in the top five in four previous seasons. Elsewhere in the AL East, Matt Harvey will tote the rubber for the Orioles with hopes of ending the team’s 11-game losing streak. Both Cole and Harvey are intriguing pitcher options in a rather shallow MLB DFS player pool with just 10 games on Monday’s schedule.

McClure’s top MLB DFS picks for August 16, 2021
One of McClure’s top MLB DFS picks for Monday is Padres second baseman Adam Frazier at $4,100 on DraftKings and $3,700 on FanDuel. Frazier was acquired by San Diego just before the trade deadline after beginning the year in Pittsburgh, and the 29-year-old is having a career season. He made his first All-Star Game and is batting .316 across both teams, which ranks second in the National League.
Frazier leads the Senior Circuit in hits (143) while ranking second in doubles (30) and fourth in triples (five). He has a great opportunity to add to all of those numbers as the Padres visit Coors Field to take on the Rockies. Like most hitters, Frazier loves hitting in the high altitude of Denver as he’s a .405 career hitter at Coors Field. That is his highest batting average in any ballpark he’s played at least five games in, so you can see why McClure is high on him.
Part of McClure’s optimal MLB DFS strategy includes rostering Rays second baseman Brandon Lowe ($5,300 on DraftKings, $3,600 on FanDuel). Lowe is hitting .333 over the last week with two home runs and four RBI. He now has 26 home runs and 65 RBI on the season which are both career-highs with 44 games left in the season.
Lowe has to be salivating at the thought of facing the Baltimore Orioles as he’s had the divisional rival’s number all season. He has a .304/.421/.500 split against Baltimore and his 12 RBI are his most against any opponent. Over his last two games against the Orioles — which took place earlier this month — Lowe went 4-for-9 with a homer, a double, six RBI and three runs scored. His previous success against Baltimore makes him a must-start for Monday’s MLB DFS lineups.
