Two of Mary J. Blige‘s songs have inspired original Lifetime movies, which she will executive produce. Mary J. Blige’s Real Love and Mary J. Blige’s Strength of a Woman are slated to premiere in June.
Real Love sees Ajiona Alexus take on the role of 18-year-old Kendra, who’s heading to a historically black college in North Carolina on a scholarship, Deadline reports. She attempts to balance work study and keep things professional with her classmate, Da’Vinchi‘s character, Ben, with whom she unexpectedly gets pregnant. Through disapproving parents and financial hardships, the two learn the definition of “real love.”
Ben and Kendra’s story continues in Strength of a Woman, which sees their lives more than 15 years later. Kendra’s become a successful photographer, but her marriage has failed. According to Deadline, she finds herself looking for the strength to regain control of her life and accept love from Ben, who unexpectedly makes a return.
Real Love will premiere June 10 at 8 p.m., with Strength of a Woman airing one week later.
