Paulo Dybala is likely to leave Juventus at the end of the current season. The Argentine striker’s agents sat down with Juventus representatives on Monday to discuss his contract situation, as the current deal expires this summer. As CBS insider Fabrizio Romano previously reported Paulo Dybala wouldn’t sign the offer that Juventus currently has on the table for their attacker. The meeting was crucial to determining Dybala’s future, and whether he’d extend and stay in Turin or become one of the hottest names on the free agents transfer market this summer.
And it looks like the answer is, he’s going to become a free agent. According to Sky Sports Italia, Dybala and Juventus have been unable to come to terms.
Talks about a renewal began way back before the start of the first COVID-19 outbreak in 2019, when Fabio Paratici (now at Tottenham) was still in charge. Things progressed further more recently with negotiations taking place between Paratici’s successor, Federico Cherubini and Dybala’s agent, Jorge Antun. It was a complicated negotiation, but it seemed to have finally born fruit last November, when both sides seemed set to agree to a five-year contract worth €10 million per season, including add-ons. It was supposed to be signed before January, but before that could happen, Dybala, who has been injury prone over the course of his career, picked up another knock. He missed four games between November and December.
In the meantime, Juventus CEO Maurizio Arrivabene had strong words before the Supercoppa game against Inter Milan about him. “Whoever wears our number ten must realize the weight that this number has for us,” he said. The team asked Dybala and his agent to wait until February to discuss his contract situation again. The request caught Dybala by surprise, he’d been ready to sign his new deal for weeks. Then the club asked again to postpone the meeting to the International break in March and the feeling between the sides was that the agreement which had been seemingly all but done was now very difficult to reach. On Monday, this meeting finally took place and the outcome was the one many expected. Paulo Dybala will leave Juventus in the summer if nothing surprising happens in the next few weeks. As Argentinian journalist Luis Merlo reported, Inter Milan might be one of the clubs interested in Dybala and in the next days there will be a meeting between the Italian club and Dybala’s agent to discuss a potential move. The Dybala saga has just started and many other European clubs will certainly join the race to sign him.
