What to Know
The Rice Owls are 0-5 against the UTSA Roadrunners since November of 2015, but they’ll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. Rice’s week off comes to an end as they meet up with UTSA at 6 p.m. ET at Alamodome. Both teams seek to continue their momentum from their previous wins.
The Owls didn’t have too much breathing room in their contest with the Southern Miss Golden Eagles two weeks ago, but they still walked away with a 24-19 victory.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn’t a dominant performance, the Roadrunners beat the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers 52-46 last week. QB Frank Harris went supernova for UTSA as he passed for six TDs and 349 yards on 38 attempts in addition to picking up 51 yards on the ground and snatching one receiving TD.
Rice is the clear underdog, so they’re hoping it’s the size of the fight that determines this one. Those who got lucky with them against the spread two weeks ago might want to hold off on placing bets this time since the squad has yet to string together back-to-back wins against the spread.
The wins brought Rice up to 2-3 and UTSA to 6-0. Two defensive stats to keep in the back of your head while watching: The Owls are stumbling into the game with the 240th most rushing touchdowns allowed in the nation, having given up 16 on the season. The Roadrunners have experienced some struggles of their own as they are 228th worst in the nation in passing touchdowns allowed, with 13 on the season. It’s possible one of these Achilles’ heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
