Written by on February 2, 2022

Cameroon and Egypt square off in a semifinal on Thursday with their sights set on another title at the Africa Cup of Nations. Egypt has won the continental championship a record seven times, while Cameroon has five AFCON titles. Host Cameroon has been scoring at a high rate in the tournament and advanced with a 2-0 quarterfinal victory against Gambia on Saturday. Egypt has been playing stout defense and counting on the brilliance of superstar Mohamed Salah. The Pharaohs beat Morocco 2-1 on Sunday, with Salah scoring the equalizer in the second half to force extra time.

Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. ET at Olembe Stadium in Yaounde, Cameroon. Caesars Sportsbook lists Cameroon as the +122 favorite (risk $100 to win $122) on the 90-minute money line in its latest Cameroon vs. Egypt odds, with Egypt the +290 underdog. A draw is priced at +180 and the over-under for total goals scored is set at 1.5. Why you should back Cameroon

The Indomitable Lions have the top two scorers in the tournament. In fact, they have three more goals than any other team with just those two players getting on the board. Vincent Aboubakar has an AFCON-best six goals, while Karl Toko Ekambi has five. The 30-year-old Aboubakar has six goals and four assists in 15 matches for Al-Nassr in the Saudi Arabian Pro League this season. Ekambi has scored five and set up two in 17 matches with Lyon in France’s Ligue 1.

Cameroon has been getting a big boost from the home crowd. It has scored 11 goals while conceding just four in its five matches. Goalkeeper Andre Onana is tied for second in the tournament with 15 saves, and he has a 77.1 save percentage in eight seasons with Ajax. Cameroon is unbeaten in its last nine (8-1-0), outscoring its opponents 20-6.

Why you should back Egypt

Egypt is 15-6-6 all-time against Cameroon. It can count on moments of individual excellence from Salah, who leads the English Premier League in goals (16) and is second in assists (nine). The 29-year-old has scored two of his team’s four goals in this tournament and had four goals and two assists in four AFCON qualifying matches. Mostafa Mohamed also has the skills to be dangerous up top. The 24-year-old has 11 goals in his two seasons with Galatasaray in Turkey.

The Pharaohs lead the tournament in shots on target, putting 29 of their 53 attempts on net (55 percent). They have conceded just two goals in their five matches. Goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shenawy shares the No. 2 spot with Cameroon’s Onana with 15 saves and is second at AFCON with a 93.8 save percentage. He has 17 clean sheets in 32 matches with the Egypt national team.
