Written by on January 3, 2022

Who’s Playing

Kansas City @ Cincinnati

Current Records: Kansas City 11-4; Cincinnati 9-6

What to Know

The Cincinnati Bengals’ homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Kansas City Chiefs at 1 p.m. ET Jan. 2 at Paul Brown Stadium. Keep an eye on the score for this one: these two teams posted some lofty points totals in their previous games, so things might heat up even more when they meet Sunday.

Cincinnati ran circles around the Baltimore Ravens last week, and the extra yardage (575 yards vs. 334 yards) paid off. The stars were brightly shining for the Bengals in a 41-21 victory over Baltimore. QB Joe Burrow had a stellar game for Cincinnati as he passed for four TDs and 525 yards on 46 attempts. Near the top of the highlight reel was Burrow’s 68-yard TD bomb to WR Tyler Boyd in the second quarter.

Meanwhile, everything went Kansas City’s way against the Pittsburgh Steelers last week as they made off with a 36-10 win. With Kansas City ahead 23 to nothing at the half, the matchup was all but over already. It was another big night for their QB Patrick Mahomes, who passed for three TDs and 258 yards on 30 attempts.

Special teams collected 12 points for the Chiefs. K Elliott Fry delivered a perfect 3-for-3 game.

Kansas City is now 11-4 while the Bengals sit at 9-6. Kansas City has clinched a playoff berth as the current first seed in the AFC. Cincinnati is still in the hunt for a spot in the playoffs, so these next two games are critical for them.

Cincinnati is expected to lose this next one by 3.5. However, those who like betting on the underdog should be happy to hear that they are 3-0 against the spread when expected to lose.

Two stats to keep in the back of your head while watching: The Bengals are fourth worst in the league in passing yards allowed per game, with 270.9 on average. Kansas City’s offense has more to brag about, as they they come into the game boasting the second most passing yards per game in the NFL at 293.9. It might be a fun afternoon for their receiving core.
