Air Force vs. Army odds: 2021 college football picks, Commanders’ Classic predictions from model on 28-15 run

Written by on November 6, 2021

Army (4-3) and Air Force (6-2) face off Saturday at a neutral site in the 2021 Lockheed Martin Commanders’ Classic. The Black Knights head into this matchup on a three-game losing streak. The Falcons couldn’t extend their win streak to five games. They fell short to San Diego State 20-14 in a Week 8 matchup. Air Force would clinch the 2021 Commander-in-Chief’s trophy with a victory in this matchup.

Kickoff in Arlington, Texas is set for 11:30 a.m. ET on CBS. Caesars Sportsbook lists the Falcons as 2.5-point favorites in the latest Army vs. Air Force odds. Why Air Force can cover

Junior running back Brad Roberts leads the Falcons with 185 carries for 845 yards with eight touchdowns. Roberts has rushed for over 100 yards in five games this season. During a three-week span, he combined for 90 carries with 420 yards and five touchdowns. Roberts rushed for over 100 yards in each of those matchups.

Junior quarterback Haaziq Daniels is another dynamic option in the backfield. He is second on the team with 110 carries for 575 yards and a team-high nine rushing touchdowns. Daniels has run for a score in six of the games he’s played in. The New Jersey native ran for over 100 yards in consecutive weeks against Utah State and Florida Atlantic. He combined for 31 carries with 266 yards and three touchdowns in those matchups.

Why Army can cover

The Black Knights have the second-best rushing attack in the country, averaging 312.3 rushing yards per game with 4.9 yards per carry. Army has notched 26 rushing touchdowns thus far in 2021. The Black Knights rushed for at least 339 yards in Weeks 2-4. Their best game during that stretch came against UConn, where they totaled 397 yards and six touchdowns on 67 carries.

Their run game was balanced and sophomore running back Tyrell Robinson led the team. He finished with a team-high 84 yards and a score on just three carries. There were three other players who finished with at least 58 rushing yards. Army has more than enough talent in their backfield to have a performance like this once again.
