The Massachusetts Minutemen will take on the Weber State Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. ET on Thursday at McArthur Center. Both teams seek to continue their momentum from their previous wins.
UMass made easy work of the Penn State Nittany Lions on Monday and carried off an 81-56 victory. Trent Buttrick gave his former team something to remember him by as he had 19 points and six assists along with nine rebounds for the Minutemen.
Meanwhile, things were close when Weber State and the Duquesne Dukes clashed on Monday, but Weber State ultimately edged out the opposition 63-59. Having forecasted a close win for Weber State, the oddsmakers were right on the money.
The wins brought UMass up to 2-1 and the Wildcats to 2-0. A pair of last-season numbers to keep in mind before tip-off: The Minutemen rank 13th in college basketball when it comes to steals given up per game, with only 7.1 on average. But Weber State enters the matchup with 6.7 steals per game on average, good for 25th best in college basketball. Ball control might end up being a major factor in this one.
