The New Orleans Pelicans were expected to take an ‘L’ in this one, but so far it isn’t playing out to script. Either team is in a position to win, but they lead against the Washington Wizards 80-75. The Pelicans have been relying on center Jonas Valanciunas, who has 16 points in addition to eight rebounds, and small forward Brandon Ingram, who has 19 points along with four boards.
New Orleans has yet to string together two consecutive wins, but this may be their chance. For now, all signs point to yes.

What to Know
After a three-game homestand, the New Orleans Pelicans will be on the road. They will take on the Washington Wizards at 7 p.m. ET Monday at Capital One Arena. Both teams seek to continue their momentum from their previous wins.
New Orleans didn’t have too much trouble with the Memphis Grizzlies at home this past Saturday as they won 112-101. Shooting guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker (21 points) and small forward Brandon Ingram (19 points) were the top scorers for the Pelicans.
Meanwhile, Washington had enough points to win and then some against the Orlando Magic this past Saturday, taking their matchup 104-92. Washington’s center Montrezl Harrell did his thing and had 20 points and seven assists in addition to six rebounds.
New Orleans is expected to lose this next one by 4.5. The smart bettors have been the ones to keep their money on New Orleans’ opponents whenever they hit the road.
The wins brought New Orleans up to 2-12 and the Wizards to 9-3. A couple defensive stats to keep in the back of your head while watching: The Pelicans have allowed their opponents to shoot 47.40% from the floor on average, which is the third highest shooting percentage allowed in the league. Washington’s defense has more to brag about, as they they have been holding their opponents to a field goal percentage of 42.60%, which places them second in the league. So the cards are definitely stacked in their favor.
