Odell Beckham Jr. will likely be more than a spectator when he makes his Rams debut. Beckham may be used as a punt returner when the Rams face the 49ers on Monday night, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Beckham has not returned punts since the 2019 season. For his career, Beckham has returned 42 punts for 291 yards while averaging nearly seven yards a return. His longest return was 25 yards which he did as a member of the Giants during his rookie season.
The three-time Pro Bowl receiver signed a one-year deal with the Rams last week after he and the Browns mutually agreed to part ways. Beckham’s signing was more significant to the Rams after Robert Woods sustained a season-ending ACL injury during Friday’s practice. The Rams’ receiving corps now includes Beckham, Cooper Kupp , Van Jefferson and tight end Tyler Higbee . Kupp leads the NFL with 74 receptions for 1,019 yards and 10 touchdowns.
The 29-year-old Beckham caught 17 of 32 targets for 232 yards in six games with the Browns this season. Beckham is looking to return to the form that saw him compile five 1,000-yard receiving seasons during his first six years in the NFL. Beckham’s last 1,000-yard season took place in 2019, his first season with the Browns.
The Rams are a 2.5-point favorite against the 49ers, according to Caesars Sportsbook, with the over/under set at 51.5 points.
