49ers vs. Packers odds, line: 2022 NFL playoff picks, Divisional round prediction by model on 137-97 roll

Written by on January 21, 2022

When the San Francisco 49ers last visited the Green Bay Packers for a playoff game in 2013, the temperature at kickoff was five degrees, the fourth-coldest postseason contest in the history of Lambeau Field. San Francisco managed to post a 23-20 victory in that wild-card game, winning on a 33-yard field goal by Phil Dawson as time expired. The 49ers (11-7) will encounter brutal elements again on Saturday when they visit the NFC North-champion Packers (13-4) for a divisional round matchup in the 2022 NFL playoffs. When San Francisco and Green Bay take the field for their fourth playoff meeting since 2012, the temperature at Lambeau Field is expected to be around two degrees.

Kickoff from Lambeau Field is set for 8:15 p.m. ET. Green Bay is a six-point favorite in the latest 49ers vs. Packers odds from Caesars Sportsbook, while the over-under for total points scored is 47. Why the Packers can cover

San Francisco was third in total defense (310 yards) during the regular season and limited Dallas to 307 yards of offense in last Sunday’s wild-card victory, but Rodgers could be facing a depleted unit on Saturday. Nick Bosa, who was fourth in the NFL with a career-high 15.5 sacks, suffered a concussion against the Cowboys in the first half, while fellow defensive end Jordan Willis went down with an ankle injury. Linebacker Fred Warner also sprained his ankle. The early feeling is that the 25-year-old Warner, who led the 49ers with 137 tackles, is the most likely of the three to be in the lineup against Green Bay.

Rodgers could have a field day against the 49ers If Bosa and Willis are unavailable. Green Bay’s aerial attack was eighth in the NFL (253.8 yards) during the regular season and Rodgers threw a league-low four interceptions for the second time in three years.

Why the 49ers can cover

49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo entered the 2022 NFL playoff bracket with a thumb injury and suffered a slightly sprained shoulder in last Sunday’s 23-17 wild-card victory at Dallas. The 30-year-old never has started an NFL game with a kickoff temperature below 40 degrees and has lost the two coldest of his career, a 40-degree start at Baltimore in 2019 and a 41-degree contest at Seattle last month. However, San Francisco already has proven it can defeat Green Bay in the NFL playoffs without an effective Garoppolo, winning 37-20 at home in the 2019 NFC Championship Game behind a ground attack that amassed 285 yards while the quarterback was 6-of-8 passing for 77 yards.

Garoppolo went toe-to-toe with Aaron Rodgers in the 49ers’ 30-28 home loss to Green Bay in Week 3 this season, finishing with four fewer passing yards (257) while matching the reigning NFL MVP with a pair of touchdown tosses. On Saturday, he’ll likely hand the ball off to rookie Elijah Mitchell, who nearly rushed for 1,000 yards (963) in only 11 games in 2021. Deebo Samuel also could be a big part of the running game, as he was second on the 49ers with 365 yards and led the team with eight rushing TDs.
