The best golf tournament this week is not taking place under the PGA Tour banner but rather several thousand miles away in Dubai. The European Tour’s season culminates over the next few days with the DP World Tour Championship.
This year’s field included Rory McIlroy, Tyrrell Hatton, Patrick Reed, Sergio Garcia, Shane Lowry, Tommy Fleetwood, Will Zalatoris, Paul Casey, Matt Fitzpatrick and the two leaders of the Race to Dubai — Billy Horschel and Collin Morikawa. The event is tantamount to the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup as a season-long race winds down and will reward the very top players in the standings at the end of the week.
Heading into the final round on Sunday, one of the biggest names in the sport seems focused on walking away with the title in the European Tour finale as McIlroy sits atop the leaderboard at 14 under. It’s a slim one-shot lead, so excitement will be high in Round 4 as McIlroy pursues the victory.
